Welcoming new faculty for 2019

August 1, 2019

This fall, the Department of Chemistry welcomes three new faculty members.

Brian Fuglestad
Fuglestad
Ka Un Lao
Lao
Xuewei Wang
Wang

Brian Fuglestad, Ph.D., joins the department as an assistant professor in the chemical biology research program. He and his lab are interested in protein/membrane interactions, and fragment screening and inhibitor design. The ultimate goal of his research is to inhibit peripheral membrane proteins for chemical biology investigations and to develop drug candidates to treat diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular disorders.

Ka Un Lao, Ph.D., completed his doctorate in physical/theoretical chemistry at The Ohio State University under the guidance of John M. Herbert, Ph.D. His postdoctoral work was with Robert A. DiStasio Jr., Ph.D., at Cornell University. A new assistant professor in the physical chemistry research program, Lao's research interests range from small molecules to large, condensed phase systems, and from methods development to applications.

Xuewei Wang, Ph.D., will join the department as an assistant professor in the analytical chemistry program. More details on his background and interests are forthcoming.
