March 16, 2023

The Fuglestad Lab in the Department of Chemistry has been awarded a 5-year, $1.94 million grant from the National Institutes of Health. The award, titled “Peripheral membrane proteins and disease: tool development, basic investigations, and inhibitor design” is a R35 MIRA grant from the NIH’s National Institute of General Medical Sciences.

The grant funds efforts in the Fuglestad Lab to explore function at atomic resolution and develop inhibitors for disease-related proteins that interface reversibly with cellular membranes. In addition, the Fuglestad lab will focus on developing new tools that will enable more detailed study and more efficient drug discovery processes for this type of protein. The MIRA award is designed by the NIH to enhance a highly talented and promising investigator’s ability to take on ambitious projects and creative approaches. Congratulations to members of the Fuglestad Lab!
