TRAKD was excited to have the Chemistry department participate as a community partner during the FULL STEAM Ahead summer camp hosted in Chester, Virginia at Ecoff Elementary School. The camp provides opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) in the tri-city area designed to provide opportunities for students in Kindergarten-4th grade–particularly those youth from underserved an at-risk backgrounds. The students had a wonderful time and truly enjoyed the opportunity to participate in Chemistry Day with real chemists! The students completed a chromatography activity, had the opportunity to extract DNA from strawberries, extract chlorophyll from spinach, and learned all about polymers while making SLIME. We had a great time!!
